Let the Light In
When you go to the National Gallery in London, there is room 61. It is a room with paintings from Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci and Raphael. It is pretty astounding. I was amazed most of the time we were in the room by ourselves. It gave us lots of time to take in the beauty and richness of the Masters of the Renaissance. I am comforted by how St. Catharine's was inspired by St. Peter's in Rome. Raphael's work shows some examples of the architecture of the Renaissance.
Yesterday when I shared the video on St. Peters, I went back to it. I had some time and realized I never really paid much time to Raphael. I always loved his cherub angels, but didn't know he died at such an early age. I think he died when he was 38. But, left a massive amount of work. So, I read about him for a couple of hours.
I think what I will take away from this Easter of 2020 is the love of learning. We are living through something we have only read about. It makes me appreciate the newness of our country, we have never lived through a plague. When you tour London you hear of the bombings of WW2, the fires and the plagues. My children's lifetimes have witnessed some major upheavals in their time. Every ten years with 9/11, the devastation of hurricane Irene and Sandy and now the virus. Each day with different freedoms taken away. Something that our country is based on. Freedom of Religion and our churches are closed. Freedom of travel and our borders are closed, few airplanes, acela trains not running and signs everywhere to avoid travel. Freedom of speech is prevalent all over the media, but watching someone get dragged off the subway, because they are not wearing a mask is frightening. Safety first, I get it. But, let us treat this with tenderness. We can't be forceful at this time. I am so proud to see everyone following the lead, and staying home.
We are learning so much as a nation, and I have so much faith in our people. So much faith, I would have thought we would be free to gather by now. But, anyway I think it gives us all time. Time to learn something new if we choose. I really enjoyed learning about Raphael yesterday. So, I hope you let a little light in, by learning something new. I hope you can rejoice in the day of Easter. I am sure it will be the most memorable one of our lifetime. Make good memories! Happy Easter!
Quote of the Day: “Love shows itself more in adversity than in prosperity; as light does, which shines most where the place is darkest.”
