Lily flowers or Lotus?

Image
I painted the last, in this series of acrylic mini paintings, last night during the storm. I have always wanted to paint the lily pads and flowers from Spring Lake. So, I took some pictures and painted from them. I looked up what is the difference between lotus flowers and lily flowers to find some quotes. I already knew lotus means a lot in regards to personal growth, because it is used so much in the world of meditation. I also found the Rodin Museum in New York City was having a Oragami folding event at thier Museum I would like to participate in . I would love to participate and see the museum in person. The lotus symbolizes the opening of the heart, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth. For me, it made the perfect subject matter to concentrate on. Even though, after reading, I believe what I see each day is actually just water lily flowers. Honestly, I think it doesn't matter, they are both beautiful flowers. It just matters what you see and feel when you l

The Final Countdown

Time is just slipping away.  2020 is just not what I thought it would be.  Summer is almost over!  Was happy yesterday to spend time with a good friend and we tried our hand at painting together.  It was really fun and a great way to spend a summer day.  I usually put off anything inside until after summer.  But, this summer has been so hot.  Turns out July was the hottest on record.  We are looking forward to painting together again soon.  And, we both really want to go to the Met in NYC, which is reopening this weekend.   I think if we drove there, and wear our masks, it should be fine.   I do love summer, but as I get older I feel I don't get to fit in all the fun I used to have as a kid.  I hate to admit I look forward to September, because  of the cooler temperatures I can get more accomplished.  I love the feel of the air, the changing colors and the smell of pumpkin spice.  I also love the beach when it is quieter and with less people.   I hope you enjoy summer winding down

Life is a day at the beach

I left the house at 8am for a day at the beach, yesterday.  As I approached I realized I left my reading glasses behind.  I was disappointed, but realized I would appreciate just putting my head back and relaxing.  I took a walk, when I first arrived, and was chased by a swarm of green flies.  There was a west wind and it was very hot.  The water was beautiful and tempting, but no life guards were on duty, yet.  I sat down and thought I would make the best of it.  One by one those around me arose and said they couldn't take it and left.  Those who stayed, started swatting, covering their legs with their towels and spraying repellent.  I tried so hard to just enjoy the sun on my face.  But, I thought about going home and painting a perfect day at the beach.  I was happy AGAIN  to be in the air conditioning!   Today, my friend and are planning for a day of painting.  We had pledged this year we would paint together.  I guess August is as good time as any to start!   Quote of the Day:

A new dawn.....a new day

I love Sunday mornings.  I love to reflect on the past week and look forward to the start of another.  What I learned this week painting, was what working on the minis, made me realize.  The first one I was looking at the flower more while painting and by the third I felt more free and the brush just took me to the painting.  I was in more of a flow.  So, the more time I take, the less I had to think about it, and could just enjoy it happening.  Like life, right? I learned from the computer there is a park in Roosevelt Island called Four Freedoms and currently has a staircase covered in a huge image of sunflowers in a field celebrating the 100th year of the womens' vote. It is also in Eleanor Roosevelt's honor.  So, I'll be sharing a lot of her quotes.  It was a good week for Ian as he was featured in a cover story in the Tri-City news.  Kaylyn  is busy working and taking good care of my grandson.  He is growing fast and has six big painful teeth already!   Love seeing all

Dream a Little Dream

I started collecting dollhouse furniture and wanting a dollhouse when I was around twelve.  I used money from babysitting, selling lemonade and working for my dad to buy furniture.  Real wood furniture, it could not be plastic or modern.  Most were victorian in style.  I would use gold findings from my dad's stash and find little pictures to scale to put in frames.  I wallpapered, made curtains and little accessories.  I decorated it for Christmas.  I loved to find tiny dishes of blue and white.   Looking back at this today, I realize I was setting intentions.  I knew the life I wanted at an early age, and I wanted to work hard to make it happen.   Most of all I want to celebrate all I have accomplished and be grateful. Dreams and reality are all connected, I feel.  Using your imagination at any age is just as important to make sure you are living the life that you want.  I feel in order to do the things I enjoy everything has to be in order.  So, yesterday it was sort of funny goi

Never Too Tired to Dream

Summer!  Making the most out of every day.  Taking advantage of the beautiful weather, local scenery, flowers and harvested vegetables.  But, yesterday I was exhausted.  I felt drained and just had to relax.  Most of the time that means getting lost in scrolling and following links on my laptop.  I found this website a couple of nights ago.  I thought there had to be an easier way to try this.  So, my trip to Trader Joe's these ingredients landed in my basket.  And, yesterday at lunch I made these fun breads.  They tasted really good, too. I am so tired of all the rants, politics, and negative news when I scroll through the computer, too.  Today I want to try my hand at painting.  So, I went to youtube and searched for Van Gogh Sunflowers and got lost there for awhile.  It helps me, to concentrate on the good.  I am sharing one of my favorite videos I watched and a favorite quote from another.   Song of the day:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msiR2nynSd4 Quote of the day: https
