Virtual Visit to the Royal Academy of Arts
Wow, this is so good to do. It really gives me an appreciation for all the Art Museums I have been to. When I researched this trip I found the Matisse at his Studio exhibit which needed a ticket. So, Glen opted to walk through the museum, while I waited on line and went through this very well curated exhibit. It was very exciting to me, because of the way it was curated. With each painting it included the real objects from Matisse's studio, from his still lives. It wasn't a large exhibit, so I was glad to go through very quickly and catch up with Glen.
In order to do these blog posts, I had found my art museum postcards in all different boxes of paperwork. I have been sorting and purging which feels really good. I filed the postcards according to the Museum. And, that is how I am posting through each collection of postcards. I remember we were at this museum late, so I never made it to the store to buy postcards. So, yesterday morning I started the day with a movie about Manet. It was covering a recent exhibition of a Manet retrospective at the Royal Academy. Manet is not one of my favorites, but after the movie I had more of an appreciation of him. I also ended the day with the video of the current exhibition of Picasso and paper. They put in video form, because the museum is currently still closed. It was eye opening for me. Again, Picasso is towards the bottom of my list who I pay attention to. But, I have a new appreciation for him, also. I love that he collected wallpaper samples, postcards and loved all kinds of paper. He even cut paper napkins to use in some of his later collages.
He was competitive with Matisse, and I have always favored Matisse. I still feel the same way, but was glad to see Picasso in a new more favorable way.
Yesterday I spent many hours on their site. When I went to find a picture for the museum, I didn't think I had one. But, I did snap this photo of the outside while we were walking away. I think I am going to go back to the site today, I want to see who the Artists are in the sculptures outside the building. I also want to try my hand at a self portrait collage. It is one thing I never did in college. I found some copies of pictures of me that Kaylyn had painted on already. I would love to use it with some of the papers I love and found , while sorting. This site is an excellent resource and I had a better time seeing it virtually, then I did in person.
