Virtual Visit to the Corcoran
I saved the Museums that impressed me the most for the last week. And, maybe you have noticed the pattern. It's my daughter who is teaching me and inspiring me. I never would have gone to the Corcoran for the 30 Americans show if it wasn't for my daughter. I was blown away. I took the pamphlet, and wanted to go back no sooner then I got home. The gallery is part of a college of Art and Design. It had a calendar full of the Artists actually visiting with it's students and the public. I never got back there. And, I was stunned when I did google the Museum a few years later, it had closed in 2014. Yesterday gave me the chance to read about the closure and what happened to the collection. It was a beautiful collection, a lot of Reniors. They were given away to mostly to the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC and many other museums only in Washington DC.
I shared the picture of the Nick Cave's sound suit, because it is the Artist I paid the most attention, too. It made me feel whoever created it, was is involved in retail in some way. I loved all the flowers and really felt something from the work. Personally, it sort of felt like it represented me. When I do try to quiet my mind by meditating it is pretty hard. I need to focus on something, and then usually it ends up I need to write or paint to empty all my thoughts. So, his sound suits definitely make me think of how I have been lately. Trying to concentrate on the good and most of all on the flowers. Trying to make good of the rain and thinking I don't have to water the flowers. And, most of all creating a space I can relax and enjoy the quiet of the outdoors.
I chose a quote by the Visual Artist and a song by the Musical Artist Nick Cave. I wondered if they were the same person. They are NOT. I chose the song by googling Nick Cave and it happened to be part of the list for Bono of U2 who is celebrating his 60th birthday by compiling the 60 most influential songs and sending the Artist a thank you note. Wow, I'll be paying attention to that in the next few weeks. The song is pretty intense and a bit dark and depressing. But, the message is strong. We all have different beliefs, but it is up to us, how we interpret it and get a message of hope from the words. Keep the candles (floral scented, of course) burning.
Quote of the Day: “An artist's duty is rather to stay open-minded and in a state where he can receive information and inspiration. You always have to be ready for that little artistic Epiphany.”
