Virtual Visit to the Barnes Foundation

Saving the best Museums with the best memories for last.  This picture is the actual day of my sixtieth birthday.  It was one of my favorite days ever.   The first time I went to the Barnes was with friends.  We went to college together, and we laughed our way through this museum.  I felt like a little kid who was laughing in church and I was going to get in trouble.  By the fourth room we went in, I just couldn't figure anything out.  I became unhinged!  Every room is a mix of colors, artists, time period, countries of origin and hinges!  So,  the questions began what's with the hinges?  What does each room have in common?  Why did he arrange these like this?  Where did he get all of his money?  I wonder what the original house looked like?  Can you still visit the original home?  It was the most fun I have ever had in a museum.
I saw a movie about the Renior collection and it helped with a lot of my questions.  (There are 181!) But, I couldn't wait to experience the Museum with my daughter.  So, when she asked me what I wanted for my birthday, she made a day with the family happen.  Again, the same thing happened, and the questions started.  And, for some reason it is funny not knowing what was his mind when he hung all of the masterpieces in his collection.  So, we entered one room and a talk just started.  I felt relieved and asked if we could stay and listen.  It was a full moon that night, so that's what the talk was about.  And, when the explanation started about light and shape and placement towards open doors and windows.  I just surrendered....."I don't get it".  But, this was Barne's way of educating and he actually taught his lessons on line, color and shapes in each different room.  With each having it's own lesson.
I think it is the most fascinating museum and want to go back again and again.  I don't really want to "get it".  I just love the feeling of all the uncertainty it brings.  As I wind down in these posts, I just want to say they helped me sleep better.  Towards the end, I would figure out what I was concentrating on the night before.  If I woke up in the middle of the night, I would think of the museum and sort of walk through.  It lulled me right back to sleep.
This is also the first museum I visited virtually during the pandemic.  I signed up for their emails and received Barne's Take out.  Each week someone who worked at the museum talked about a different work of art.  It is a great way to concentrate on different artists and learn something new about them.

Quote of the Day:  “Here’s to freedom, cheers to art. Here’s to having an excellent adventure and may the stopping never start.”
