Virtual Visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art
I think the Metropolitan Museum of Art gave me the true appreciation of Art and impacted the quality of my life. It taught me lessons in friendship, family and myself in the relationship we have with Art. My first lesson was knowing I could go there by myself and enjoy the experience. I realized how blessed we are to be able to hop on a train and take a taxi to one of the best museums in the world. That was big for me to overcome the fear of the city. The second was to go with friends and be able to go at a pace and have someone to talk to at lunch or on the way back home. To be able to relate to each other about our favorites and really just how lucky we are to see great works of Art. And, then my family who always tries to make me happy with a trip to the museum. The picture of us above was on the rooftop of the Metropolitan which has a fantastic view, sculptures and cocktails!
This morning when I was gathering thoughts for what I was going to write. I was thinking how even the name for classes are called Art Appreciation and Music Appreciation. But, not every one goes to college and takes such courses. Again. I am so thankful for the computer to allow us to have the information at our fingertips. The website for the Metropolitan is FULL of goodness, as is the museum. One of my favorite trips there was asking what our children wanted to see. They wanted to go to the Egyptian section with the mummies. To think of how the pieces of rock, architecture and mummies were purchased and transported to New York City was astounding. It is really nice when you pick one area to focus on. It would take a good week to get through the entire museum.
Of course, my favorite room is the Impressionism and Post-Impressionism and I have visited there quite often. For now, I am happy visiting the museum virtually. But, this post is really making me look forward to be able to visit a museum again.
Kaylyn was doing a lot of work using bottle caps. She even bought champagne caps in Paris to use in her work. So, it was really cool to see a work from 2007 using this medium in the Met.
