Rise and Write

Today is the start writing two paragraphs a day for thirty days. I am also doing this on my iphone for the first time, because I am in Maryland I am here to celebrate my grandson's birthday. Yesterday I started a writing accountability class as Thunderoad Bookstore in Spring Lake I love the name of the class Rise And Write, as I have been doing that for the last ten years. Every day is a beginning. Starting most days witnessing a sunset is a remarkable way to start the day I can not believe how exciting it is. My biggest fear these last few years with the amount of loss I have endured is depression. And, I am so thankful for the encouragement I find in surprising ways each day. I have made the most of this four day weekend! But, the best surprise was reuniting with my best friend from fifty years ago. It was as if no time has gone by. I only found out the day before she was coming up from Atlanta. And, today hoy was found waking up to the sounds of the pitter patter of my 2 year old grandson as he awoke to his birthday celebration. So, surprisingly enough I feel joyful and looking forward to sharing some snippets of my life for next 30 days.

Living alone with the holidays quickly approaching can be difficult. I indulged in something for myself this year. It is an advent calender from Lauduree with parisian sweets. I am kinda obsessed with Lauderee. It is a french bakery and confectionery store originating in Paris. I became familiar with it from social media and artists who would paint pictures of macarons. I collected a few cookbooks. And, when Kaylyn and I visited Paris in 2008, it was high on my list of places to visit. It had a line outside and it was very cold. The Fork in the Road

I am in this really deep place on this journey to joy. I don't know how to look forward without looking back. So this morning I was looking in the rearview mirrow. I was listening to the same music I listened to in my dorm room back in college when I was 19. Forty more years later, I feel pretty much the same. I am thinking of the future, not really knowing what it is going to be like. I have an idea of how I would like it be, just don't know how it will turn out. I am still sorting, purging and donating. In a week I move out of the house I have been living. The house I was supposed to retire in. The house to rest easy in. Instead, I am packing my bags and getting ready to move on. I am thankful every morning to wake with a feeling of optimism. I also still feel no matter what choices I made in life, they have all been good ones. Take Joy

I finished the wreath! I haven't been able to accomplish so much in one day in a lonnnng time. Bought a tree and had it decorated by 3pm! I am amazed and found joy in doing it. Here is something I read in the beginning of December, which always helps: I salute you. I am your friend, and my love for you goes deep. There is nothing I can give you which you have not. But there is much, very much, that, while I cannot give it, you can take. No heaven can come to us unless our hearts find rest in it today. Take heaven! No peace lies in the future which is not hidden in this present little instant. Take peace! The gloom of the world is but a shadow. Behind it, yet within our reach, is joy.
