Defying Gravity
One of the best lessons I have learned, over and over again in life, is out of something bad comes something good. Last night I attended an Art Opening for a Sculpture teacher I had over 30 years ago. I had met the curator about ten years ago when I had the shop on Cookman in Asbury Park. It was nice to catch up with her. She did an excellent job capturing Michael Malpass's spirit. I had gone to the retrospective of Michael's life in 2016 at Monmouth University. The movie allowed me to get to know the family members. And, after meeting Cathy, Michael's wife, we became friends on facebook. I hope to visit the studio in the near future. I would like to give her the sculptures I made while at Georgian Court. I have one of her son's head and one of her daughter and son. I had never sculpted before, and they are a bit primative, but I think she will enjoy them.
These last few weeks have flown by. I am adjusting to working full time. It's hard to make plans, but I put in my 40 hours and I was able to leave work at 4 yesterday. So, I was happy to have somewhere to go. I bought the book Humdinger written by Michael Malpass (his son). And, he signed it for me. I was so happy with what he wrote. I am going to use it as the quote for this post. It is SO true. During the time I studied Art at Georgian Court College I learned so much. But, mostly I learned to really appreciate life and look at most things as art. Whether it is the colors of the sky, a rock on the ground shaped as a heart, etc. Art is beauty and surrounds us and gives a big hug each day. And, it was during this time I realized how important it was to concentrate on the good, so it outweighs the bad.
Quote of the day: "Art is beautiful. It reminds me that I am never alone" Michael Malpass
Song of the day: Defying Gravity sung by Idina Menzel
